Perkasa to protest ‘Australian interference’ tomorrow - mALAysianInsider

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 — Perkasa is furthering its cause to defend Malay rights by sending a protest note to the Australian High Commission tomorrow over Australian MPs asking Malaysia to drop Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy charges.

The Malay rights group’s Wira wing chief Arman Azha Abu Hanifah confirmed they will send the protest note over the Australian MPs' move.

“All Malay Muslims who love and care about the country’s sovereignty are also invited to come,” a statement on the group’s website said.

“We are doing this because we are not satisfied with outsiders wanting to interfere with the on-going sodomy trial of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Let the courts in this country decide, outside interference may affect the outcome of the trial,” Azman told The Malaysian Insider.

He was referring to the formal protest by 50 Australian MPs urging Malaysia to drop the sodomy case against Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s de facto leader.

Anwar has been charged of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan. If convicted, it may signal an end to Anwar’s political career.

Arman also took the opportunity to hit out at Umno for wanting to take part in the protest and claim bragging rights to it.

“We had made an announcement on Sunday regarding this handing over of memorandum of protest, and now Umno suddenly wants to do the same.
